  Late Friday afternoon lunch. Very good food. Ciabatta sandwich excellent; mixed smoked fish salad delicious. Very slow service with seemingly indifferent staff. Beer - a local real blonde ale - was served flat. We were told that this was how it was meant to be. Hmmm. Anyway, in their favour they replaced it with a bottle of the same - much better.

  Bizarre overall. Went with my dad, we were initially very optimistic because of other reviews but were sadly let down. After being greeted and our drinks order taken by a friendly waitress, another member of staff thought it would be a good time to dust the paintings in the room, despite this not being necessary, which involved him physically leaning over me to reach without a word of apology or any words at all. The service was slow and we were served by a variety of people despite being the only ones actually in at that time. We ordered the large fish and chips and a steak ciabatta. The first thing we noticed was that there was mayo and sauce on the ciabatta despite it not being listed which was a shame as I would have not chosen it and the meat was cooked perfectly. The fish and chips was very expensive for what you got, £13.50 for a fish, seven chips and a small corner of mushy peas. The peas were listed as minted and also the menu listed tartar sauce amongst other things to go with the fish which were not given. A while after we finished someone came to clear the plates and we asked for the bill which we had to wait for an age to get, again, despite being the only people there. The food overall was okay but very expensive for what it was and the atmosphere was generally unwelcoming. Best thing about it was the guineas and hot chocolate that we ordered. We won't be going there again.

  Food was good. Had not booked on a friday night but the staff fitted us in and were very helpful.
